STATISTICS
(see also Mathematics Sciences) NOTE(S): FOR ALL COURSES WHICH ARE EXAMINED IN PART BY CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT STUDENTS MAY IN EXCEPTIONAL CASES BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND AND ORAL EXAMINATION

Pre-requisite(s): S or GCSE in Mathematics.
Basic data handling, summarisation and visualisation – graphical displays, tabulation, cleaning data, presentation. An introduction to probability distributions Random Sampling. The concepts of confidence intervals and hypothesis testing with simple examples. Relationships – correlation and regression.
3 one-hour lectures, 1 one-hour tutorial/computer practical per week.
1st Attempt: 1 two-hour written examination (70%); in-course assessment (30%).
Resit: 1 two-hour written examination paper (maximum of (100%) resit and (70%) resit with (30%) in-course assessment).
Formative Assessment and Feedback Information
Homework given out weekly is discussed in tutorials.
In-course assessment will be marked and feedback provided to the students.
Informal feedback at computer practicals.
