Pre-requisite(s): LS 2011. Available only to Junior and Senior Honours candidates for LLB with Honours.

Note(s): This course is also available to candidates for the MA in European Studies or Legal Studies as a 30 credit point course (LX 4070). This variation of the course will require an additional element of assessment.

The course considers the work of the European Court of Justice including its role as a law maker; fundamental human rights; impact of Union directives on national law; judicial review of Union legislation; preliminary rulings; and the role of the European Parliament.

1 two-hour seminar per fortnight.

1st Attempt: 1 three-hour examination (100%).
