How to Contact your Adviser of Studies

All students registering for their courses in September will receive details of an advising appointment with their Adviser of Studies with their joining instructions from the University. These appointments will take place during Registration Week.

Most Advisers will give their Advisees details of how they may be contacted and the office hours in which they are available to see students. If however, you are unable to contact your Adviser through theses means, students should contact the Departmental Office of their Adviser and make an appointment to see their Adviser through the Secretary.

What do I do if I can't find my Adviser?

If the matter is urgent or an emergency, students should contact the relevant Clerk for their degree through the Senate Office, Room 10 in University Office.

Changes in Curriculum

Students are permitted the first three weeks of each half-session in which to amend their chosen courses. Any changes in curriculum requested by a student MUST be authorized by their Adviser of Studies who will ensure that the student's curriculum remains valid for their chosen degree.

Class Certificate Refusals

If a student has one or more Class Certificates refused, they should in the first instance contact the Head of the Department concerned to discover why the Class Certificate has been refused and what if anything they can do to have their Class Certificate restored.

Students do have the right to appeal against the refusal of a Class Certificate to the Convener of the relevant Undergraduate Programme Committee. Such appeals MUST be made in writing WITHIN 14 DAYS of the date of the Class Certificate refusal letter.

Students who are unsuccessful in having their Class Certificate restored, should contact their Adviser of Studies immediately to discuss the implications on their studies and to amend their curriculum accordingly in order to ensure that they satisfy the University regulations on Student Progress by the end of the academic session.

Can I Change my Adviser of Studies?

It is possible to change a student's Adviser of Studies, however, such changes are only made in very exceptional circumstances and an application must be made in writing to the Director of Studies (Advising) through the Senate Office, outlining the reasons for requesting a change of Adviser.

Student Progress Reports

Advisers of Studies are required to fill out a Student Progress Report for each of their students who is deemed "At Risk" of failing to meet Student Progress requirements at the end of each half-session. These confidential reports may then be used as evidence if the student is later required to attend the Students Progress Committee at the end of the academic session.
