The School of Psychology provides an exciting and vibrant research environment. Our research is broadly organised around 3 research themes, Cognition, Social Cognition, and Perception and Attention. Our environment nurtures multidisciplinary approaches to research and our staff collaborate both with scientists from other Schools in our own University (e.g., through the Aberdeen Neuroscience network) and with researchers from other Universities, based here in the UK and abroad.
Our research activities are funded by various Medical Charities, industrial partners and Research Councils, including the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the European Research Council (ERC).
The Cognition theme explores processes such as attention, language and memory.
The Perception and Attention theme explores the relationship between perception and physical parameters of the environment in healthy and clinical populations.
The Social Cognition theme explores the psychological processes that support the fabric of daily life - connecting with others.
In addition to these themes, the Industrial Psychology Research Centre specialises in the application of psychology to safety and performance in high reliability workplaces.
