Decision Making Process - How Committees Work

Under the statutes contained in the Universities (Scotland) Acts 1889-1966 the University Court oversees the management of the revenue, property and other resources of the University, including ensuring an effective system of internal control, and is required to present audited financial statements for each financial year.

The Court delegates much of its detailed work to be addressed in the first instance by formally constituted Committees, which are set out in the Committee Structure Diagram.  This diagram contains links to the remits of each committee, and also reflects the committee reporting structure. Where a committee has delegated authority from the Court to take decisions on certain matters, it will formally report these decisions to Court.  If it does not have delegated authority from the Court it may make recommendations for the Court's consideration.

The decisions of Court and its committees are formally recorded in minutes, which may be accessed via this page.

Queries about the work of individual committees should be directed to the relevant committee clerk.
