Accommodation

Aberdeen is unusual for a big-city university in having a lot of student accommodation within walking distance of its main teaching site. There is a choice of University-managed halls and privately-owned and managed halls, all situated within easy walking distance of the campus.

Information regarding applying for accommodation will be sent to all students who firmly accept an offer of a place. The University-managed accommodation houses approximately 2,700 students and all single, new students are guaranteed a place, as long as they apply by the stated deadline. If you are a late applicant, we will try to find a place for you, though we cannot guarantee that you will be allocated University accommodation. The University does not have family accommodation but we can provide a list of local Solicitors & Estate Agents who may be able to assist you in acquiring suitable accommodation.  Alternatively, the Students Association advertises private accommodation and further information can be obtained at www.ausa.org.uk

Halls of Residence

We offer a mixture of halls, all of which have full wireless (WIFI) internet access. We have Crombie-Johnston Hall at the heart of the campus; this accommodates approximately 400 first-year students in single study-bedrooms, with meals provided. Hillhead Halls, 20 minute walk from campus, is the student village on the bank of the River Don.  All the accommodation at Hillhead is self-catering with a mixture of en-suite and standard rooms with facilities for disabled students.  Student facilities include a shop, launderettes, floodlit all-weather tennis courts and a football pitch.  A frequent bus service runs to the main campus and the city centre.

Elphinstone Road flats and Kings Hall are also on campus, only a few minutes walk from the Queen Mother Library. Elphinstone Road consists of 120 single study bedrooms, organised into flats for 3 — 5 residents with shared kitchen and other facilities per flat.  Kings Hall consists of 56 single study en-suite bedrooms, organised into flats of 5 residents with shared kitchen facilities per flat.  These residences are usually reserved for postgraduate/mature students.
Similar to Elphinstone Road flats, North Court has a designated postgraduate block.

Costs

Up-to-date information on University accommodation, including costs, is available from the Accommodation Office. You can also find out more by visiting the Student Accommodation Office.

Other Accommodation

Students who don't want to stay in a Hall of Residence can choose from a wide range of alternative accommodation throughout the city. There are lodgings available in all parts of Aberdeen and the Student Accommodation Office can provide a list of Solicitors and Estate Agents on request.

Student Resident Assistants (RSAs)

To provide a comprehensive system of care and ensure that students are in a well-supported and secure environment, our halls have a team of trained staff in residence or nearby. If you need information or advice when you're living in the Halls or a University flat, help is at hand from our trained Student Resident Assistants. Their job is to ensure your wellbeing and to help you get the most out of communal life.
