Mission statement

Sapientia was originally created to showcase postgraduate research at the University of Aberdeen, but is now open to a wider audience through its affiliation to the PSA Graduate Network. Our objective is to provide an outlet for the high quality of research associated with the PSA Postgraduate Network, for example the various regional conferences held throughout the year. As articles will be refereed by senior members of the academic community it will ensure the continued excellence of the original research produced by the UK Postgraduate community, within all areas of Political Studies and International Relations.

The History of Sapientia, the Online Journal:

Sapientia was initially launched as an effort to show-case and promote academic work produced by the postgraduate community at the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Aberdeen. The first of several issues went 'live' on the internet in early Spring 1999, and the articles reflected the diversity of academic research available here in Aberdeen. By late 1999 the Editorial Board of Sapientia was approached by members of the PSA Graduate Network whom were interested in a possible link-up between the two bodies. The executive members of the Editorial Board met with the out-going President of the PSA Graduate Network, Dr. Jennifer Lees-Marshment, and the proverbial ball was set rolling. After lengthy, and occasionally heated deliberations it was agreed in early February 2000 that the proposed link might prove mutually beneficial, and an official proposal was sent from the Editorial Board to the PSA Graduate Network committee, chaired by Dr. Lees-Marshment. And finally in early March 2000 the link between the two bodies was formally established. As a result of this Sapientia, the Online Journal, is now being re-launched with a new vol. I, issue I containing a number of interesting articles on a wide range of topics.

Our hope is to be able to publish four issues per annum under the new partnership with the PSA Graduate Network. Subsequently Sapientia is now accepting academic papers on the following basis:
