NuGOweek 2010, The Beardmore Hotel, Clydebanks, Glasgow, UK

This newsletter provides important information about NuGOweek 2010. Some 144 people are currently registered to attend NuGOweek 2010 including 24 non-NuGO members from a variety of different organisations.

Arrival and departure
NuGOweek 2010 starts on Tuesday August 31st , 2010 and finishes on Friday September 3rd, 2010
Arrival
There are quick transfer times to Glasgow city centre as well as access from the UK motorway and rail networks. The Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre is an approximate 15 minutes drive from the airport and the hotel has free parking for up to 300 cars. Alternatively, there are taxis available from the airport.
Courtesy transfer: The Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre offers a courtesy transfer to Glasgow International Airport. This is available on request and subject to availability. Please contact the hotel in advance of travel for assistance.
Departing
Again, there are transfers to Glasgow city centre, the hotel can organise courtesy transfer to Glasgow International Airport; you will be given an option at conference to identify if and when you will require a transfer.
Check-in, check-out, and registration
NuGO delegates will be able to check in to their rooms at the Beardmore hotel from 15.00 or as early as a room is available. On Friday, 3rd September, all rooms must be vacated by 12.00; luggage can be stored safely by the hotel.
Registration will be in front of the congress hall, and will be open on:
- Tuesday, 31st August from 14.30-20.30
- Wednesday, 1st September from 08.00-09.00
Whilst at NuGOweek 2010, any questions about accommodation, registration or payments should be referred to Nikki Pearce or Ingeborg van Leeuwen-Bol. This includes reimbursement for speakers from non-NuGO organisations.

Abstracts and Posters
Thank you for sending your abstracts again this year. At the event there will be 20 oral presentations and 39 poster presentations. The posters are divided between four categories:
1. Inflammation, metabolic health and obesity
2. Gut metabolism and chronic disease development
3. Novel models to investigate metabolic health
4. Food, nutrigenomics, biomarkers and health
There are two moderated poster sessions.
Session One; Wednesday 1 September 2010, 12.30 – 14.30
Posters in this session can be displayed from Tuesday afternoon and should be removed by the end of Wednesday's scientific programme.

Poster Prizes
There will be three poster prizes that will be judged on a combination of science and communication, the prizes will be awarded at the conference dinner on Thursday evening.
Speakers
A laptop and beamer will be made available for your presentation. Please give a copy of your presentation to conference secretariat as soon as possible and not later than the morning/ afternoon before your talk.
Presentations should be in Power Point office 2003 UK version, operating system is Windows XP. You may use a memory stick and/ or a copy on CD. Please do not use a re-writeable CD or DVD. Also, we cannot allow use of personal laptops. After the conference, we will upload your presentation (as a .PDF file) to NuGOnet (members' only area). If you need to make changes to your presentation before it is uploaded, please tell NuGO's Communications Manager, Siân Astley (sian.astley@bbsrc.ac.uk, tel. +44 1603 255219, +7717617875).
Other questions/ problems regarding presentations and other conference arrangements (including the social programme) should be addressed initially with Nikki Pearce or the team of helpers on site.

Internet connections
There is free wireless internet access and PCs for guests available throughout the public areas as well as an iMac in every bedroom.
Meals and refreshments
During the breaks, coffee and tea will be served in the foyer. Breakfast will be served in the restaurant "Waterhouse". For serving times, please check at reception during registration. Lunches will be served in the foyer.
If you have expressed a specific dietary need when you registered, this information will have been passed to the catering teams of the mentioned restaurants. Those needing special diets (e.g. vegetarian, lactose- or gluten-free meals) will be catered for individually; you should speak with the waiters in charge at meal times.
