PhD studentships

We always welcome applications from well qualified, motivated applicants for a PhD in our Group. The Northern Rivers Institute seeks applicants with interest and experience in one or more of our main research areas (i.e. catchment hydrology, groundwater / surface water interactions; hydroecology). Experience in statistical and numerical analyses (e.g. Matlab), GIS or tracer applications would be advantageous. Potential students should give an indication of their research interests and will be required to submit a CV and a short research proposal with their application. Self-funded PhD applications can be submitted at any time. We can give scientific advice for your proposal. For further information about research activities in our group check out: http://www.abdn.ac.uk/nri If you are interested and for further queries, please contact Prof. Doerthe Tetzlaff, email: d.tetzlaff@abdn.ac.uk

Congratulations to Rene Capell

November 2011

Congratulations to Rene Capell on a successful thesis defence. Rene's thesis examined dominant runoff generation processes and their scaling and coupling to landscape types, focussing on large catchment scales, and has already produced three papers in ISI journals. He was supervised within the Northern Rivers Institute by Professors Doerthe Tetzlaff and Chris Soulsby, in collaboration with the Macaulay Institute and Marine Scotland. His PhD was examined by Professor Jim Buttle of the University of Trent in Canada.
