Photograph of mountainThe Northern Studies Centre (NSC) brings together ecologists, social anthropologists and environmental scientists, all actively involved in research in Scotland, the sub-Arctic and the High Arctic. NSC promotes the development of new and exciting interdisciplinary research projects spanning the natural and social sciences, facilitating a holistic approach to the study of the environment and people in northern areas.

NSC was established in 2001 under the auspices of the Aberdeen Research Consortium, and is a collaborative venture between the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, Banchory, the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute and the University of Aberdeen.
