2001-2002 ‘The State of Democracy in Scotland and Scandinavia’

The project involved three workshops involving academics from Denmark, Finland,
Norway and Sweden, which were funded jointly by the ESRC and the national
research councils of the four mainland Nordic countries
2002-2003 ‘Nation-Building and Minority Politics in Post-Socialist States: Interests, Influence and Identities in Estonia and Latvia’ William J. Fulbright Research Fellow to Latvia.
2002-2004 ‘The Scottish Committees: Towards a Scandinavian-style Consensus Politics?’ Principal Investigator: David Arter. Research Assistant: Dr Roger Bobacka, Nordic Policy Studies Centre. This project was funded as part of the ESRC’s ‘Devolution and Constitutional Change’ programme.
2004-2005 ‘Nation-Building and Minority Politics: Interests, Influences and Identities’ Principal Investigator: David J. Galbreath. Research Assistant: Jeremy W. Lamoreaux, Nordic Policy Studies Centre. This project was funded by the Carnegie Trust of Scotland and allowed for interviews in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania culminating in journal articles in Cooperation and Conflict (2006) and Geopolitics (2007).
2005-2006 ‘EU Enlargement and the Minority Rights Regime? The Prospect for Value transfer in Central and Eastern Europe’ Principal Investigator: David J. Galbreath. Funded by the British Academy, resulting in the book The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (Routledge 2007).
2006-2007 ‘Continuity and Change in the Baltic Sea Region: comparing foreign policies after EU/NATO enlargement’ Principal Investigator: David J. Galbreath. Funded by the Carnegie Trust of Scotland for the forthcoming book Continuity and Change in the Baltic Sea Region: Comparing Foreign Policies (Rodopi, 2008).
