![]() The Lead Spire |
Completed by 1505, this spire was repaired and releaded some fifty years later. The panel is elaborately stamped with the crown and Charles I's monogram 'CR' and also inscribed 'W.Scott fecit, 1655'. By 1655 Charles I was six years dead and Oliver Cromwell ruled in Scotland. The strongly royalist design is therefore likely to have been made in 1641 when Charles I had provided money to repair the roof. |
