Induction Information for CM1020 Chemistry for the Life Sciences 1

Details

The first lecture for CM1020 will provide all of the key information about your first half session course in Chemistry. Attendance is vital!

Academic Information

Classes

There will be two 1-hour lectures each week and a 1-hour workshop in which lecture material will be illustrated with quizzes and problem solving. There will be a 2.5-hour practical class every second week, at which attendance is compulsory.

Assessment

The final 2-hour examination will take place in January, and will count 50% towards your final mark for the course. The balance of assessment comes from the practical classes (20%) and on-line tests (30%).

Suggested reading

The prescribed test for CM1020 is “Chemistry for the Biosciences” (second edition) by Crowe and Bradshaw (Oxford University Press). The text is available in the heavy demand section of the library, but students are strongly recommended to obtain their own copy.
