Information for New International Students

We're delighted to welcome you to the University of Aberdeen. Arriving in a new country can be exciting and intimidating at the same time. With this in mind, a number of important induction sessions have been arranged to equip you with practical advice and tips on matters such as living in Scotland and University Life. To see details of these events, please visit the induction sessions page. To see the full programme of events which have been arranged for new international students please see the Events Timetable.

Immigration Advice

The University's Visa Information page provides guidance for international students on all matters relating to immigration. We strongly advise that you read this information carefully. You can also download the Tier 4 Immigration Leaflet for International Students.

The UK has a Points Based System (PBS) for Immigration.  The system has 5 Tiers under which individuals can apply for a visa. International (non-European Economic Area (EEA)/non Swiss) students will need to apply for a student visa under Tier 4. For further information, please visit the following UK Government websites:

International Student Advisers

The International Student Advisers, based in the Student Advice and Support Office, are here to provide advice and information on international student life at the University and in the UK. They are professionally trained to provide specialist guidance on UK visa and immigration matters. If you have any queries, please feel free to contact them once you've arrived in Aberdeen.
