PechaKucha night returns to Aberdeen

PechaKucha night returns to Aberdeen

Images capturing the topic 'One World' will be delivered at the next PechaKucha Aberdeen.

The city’s latest PechaKucha Night will take place on Tuesday (October 20) at the Belmont Filmhouse and is part of the One World Week programme of events taking place in Aberdeen.

PechaKucha means ‘chitchat’ in Japanese and the format was created by two architects who were fed up with lengthy presentations. PechaKucha Nights now run in over 700 cities around the world and the nights bring together art, design, research and fresh ideas. Each speaker presents following a strict format of 20 images for 20 seconds each creating short presentations of 6 minutes and 40 seconds.

As part of One World Week in Aberdeen there will be a host of speakers on the topic of 'One World'.  Several speakers from the University of Aberdeen will deliver their thoughts on the One World topic and these will cover such diverse topics as climate change and carbon capture to, equal rights and charitable projects.

Dr Heather Doran of the University's Public Engagement with Research Unit said: “These nights are a great opportunity for people to share and learn about great work taking place in Aberdeen and beyond. Each night features a range of speakers from different backgrounds including subjects such as photography, science and art.

“We want to open up the floor and invite speakers for future PechaKucha nights. There's an open invitation for researchers and creatives in Aberdeen to participate and if you are interested please get in touch. It would be fantastic to showcase more research, art and projects from Aberdeen and we will help you put together your PechaKucha story. If you would like to speak at one of the evenings please get in touch with the Public Engagement with Research team at the University on 01224 273274 or by email at peru@abdn.ac.uk or visit www.facebook.com/PechakuchaAberdeen. “

All events are free to attend and take place at The Belmont Picturehouse from 7pm
