Aberdeen hosts academics from world leading Singapore University

The University of Aberdeen was delighted to welcome, on Monday January 24, representatives from a world leading Singapore university, as part of a visit which aims to develop teaching and research links.

Professor Eng Soon CHAN and Dr Wai Lam LOH from the National University of Singapore (NUS) – which is currently ranked 34th in the world in the Times Higher Education Supplement University Rankings - visited the University to sign an agreement and to further collaborative opportunities between the two institutions. 

The academics from NUS’s Faculty of Engineering, toured facilities including the state of the art Oceanlab building in Newburgh, and discussed existing research collaboration with theNational Subsea Research Institute

Professor Ian Diamond, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen  said of the visit: “Asia is a highly significant area within the oil and gas sector and Singapore is a natural hub for activity serving this important market. Achieving the benefits of collaborative activity in this geographical location is a key objective for the University of Aberdeen,  and meets our commitment to enhancing teaching and research through the development of both industry and academic partnerships.

“From teaching exchanges to mutual collaboration on research projects, there is vast scope to develop mutually beneficial links with the National University of Singapore, an institution which is globally recognised as a world leading university. 

“The intention of this visit is to continue our interaction and further develop the strong opportunities for alliances which are available.  We are confident that this marks a further milestone in a prosperous working relationship between the two institutions.”
