Physics-Education (BSc)

The ability to communicate these exciting ideas to school children and inspire them with  a sense of wonder for the world around them is the role of the physics teacher.  This degree which combines an education degree with a physics degree will allow you to graduate as a physics teacher without the need to do a PGCE.

 

Syllabus

Year 1:
  • The Physical Universe A
  • The Physical Univers B
  • Either
    • Calculus I & Calculus II & Algebra; Or 
    • Introductory Mathematics 1 & Introductory Mathematics 2
  • Further courses up to 120 credits of any subject 
   
Year 2:
  • Dynamical phenomena
  • Light Science
  • Practical optics and electonics
  • Relativity and Quantum mechanics
  • A 2nd level maths course
  • A further 45 credits of other subjects
   
Year 3:
  • Energy and matter
  • Learning to teach in Schools 1
  • School Experience 1
  • one of:
    • Electromagnetism
    • Research Skills in physics
    • The Solid State
  • either
    • Nuclear Physics & Medical application
    • Or Structure of matter and the Universe
  • either
    • Advanced practical physics
    • Or Quantum, Atomic and Molecular physics
   
Year 4:
  • Case studies in physics
  • School Experience Project
  • Learning to Teach in Schools 2
  • School Experience 2
  • either 
    • Solid State physics; or
    • Applied optices
  • 15 further credits up to 120 for year agreed with advisor
