Our Honours Programme is offered as Single Honours Mathematics or Joint Honours with a variety of other disciplines. The Current structure is detailed below. For full detail please browse our online Catalogue of Courses.
Level 3
At Level 3 Single Honours students take 8 courses, all in Mathematics. These provide training in a range of subjects from Pure and Applied Mathematics. In the first half session the courses on offer are Further Real Analysis, Group Theory, Optimisation and Numerical Analysis, and Mechanics. In the second half session the offering is Complex Analysis, Methods of Mathematical Physics, Rings and Fields, and Metric and Topological Spaces.
Level 4
Level 4 continues the pattern of Level 3, having 8 courses. At this level you have some choice in which courses you take. Current Level 4 courses in the first half session are Galois Theory, Measure Theory, and Ordinary Differential Equations. In addition there is an individually supervised Project course, in which you make an individual study of a mathematical topic and submit a report on it. There is also a course available as a special option in Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos Theory. In the second half session the current offering is Knot Theory, Number Theory, Algebraic Topology, Reflection Groups, and Geometry.
