Department of Chemistry

The Chemistry Staff at Aberdeen are committed to continuing their 200-year old history of excellence in teaching and research at the University of Aberdeen. We offer a range of undergraduate degree programmes, both in mainstream Chemistry and in more specialist areas, some with a unique North East context. We are proud too of our European links. Increasing numbers of European students spend time here in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and Aberdeen students are strongly encouraged and assisted to undertake placements at one or more European universities.

In research, we enjoy excellent facilities and international profiles in two areas of specialisation: Biomolecular Chemistry and Materials Chemistry. These areas attract  UK and international funding from Government bodies and from industry, and currently support a cohort of about 50 post-graduate and post-doctoral research students. A feature of the Chemistry's research profile is the extent of research collaboration with other sectors of the University and beyond.

We enjoy a reputation as being a warm and friendly environment in which to study and undertake research. The staff are young and international. We encourage you to explore these web pages to find out more about what we do. Please contact us directly if you have any further questions.
