Electroacoustic Music

There are three electroacoustic music composition studios. The main studio (Bennachie) is centred on a ProTools HD1 system running on an Intel Mac Pro, with a variety of plug-ins including GRMTools, Pluggo and Waves. Monitoring is via Genelec 1038A speakers and there are facilities for surround-sound and multi-channel composition (up to twelve channels). Links between digital equipment in the studio (DAT, MiniDisc) are via a patchbay.

An outboard analogue rack includes Lexicon, Yamaha, and Drawmer effects and processing units with a separate rack for mastering to DAT, CD or MiniDisc.

Two further studios (Mither Tap and Tillimuick) are also ProTools/Macintosh-based with Digidesign audio interfaces and a range of plug-ins.

There are many opportunites for performance both within and outside the university. As well as a series of electroacoustic concerts known as Discoveries and the recently established Experimental Music Series, students can participate in concerts as part of the annual sound festival.
