Big Band
The Big Band plays a variety of arrangements from all eras of big band music from the 1930's to the present day. There are opportunities for solo improvisation within some of the arrangements, and we encourage offshoots off the band to develop under their own steam (eg a jazz quartet or trad jazz band).
In addition to performing in the University, the band have played at the Garioch Jazz Club, the Blue Lamp, the Music Hall and the Citadel. A concert in Perth Town Hall in being planned at the moment.
Some former members now play in the Aberdeen Jazz Orchestra, and a number of former members (now teachers) have started bands in their schools.
The idea is to enjoy music and have fun. Rehearsals are on Wednesday afternoons from 2 - 4pm in the MacRobert Lecture Theatre. Please email Ian Milne (i.milne@abdn.ac.uk) if you would like to join.
