Psychiatry currently has in excess of 35 members based over various geographical sites. The main office of the Psychiatry Group is located in Royal Cornhill Hospital grounds, Aberdeen in a building known as the Clinical Research Centre. Psychiatry also has offices at the University Medical School, Foresterhill Aberdeen and wards within Royal Cornhill Hospital.
The range of interests of the Psychiatry Group members is extremely broad, including laboratory based and clinical research as well as clinical work and teaching. There have been many research links both with Departments of the University of Aberdeen and other institutions. These links include collaboration with Molecular and Cell Biology, Biomedical Physics and Bio Engineering, Psychology, Neuroradiology (MRI) and the Rowett Research Institute.
Psychiatry has access to in-patient and out-patient facilities in the Royal Cornhill Hospital and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and there is a computerised psychiatric case register which has data on all cases seen by the psychiatric services since 1962. This provides a resource for epidemiological research and provides a case-finding tool for other studies.
