Honours Graduates

The Admissions Committee is pleased to consider applications from appropriately qualified Honours graduates. Graduates must hold at least an upper second class honours degree. Chemistry to at least B grade in Scottish Higher or A grade in GCE A-Level examinations is required also, although this requirement may be satisfied in individual cases by appropriate courses of study and achievement during the first degree.

Otherwise any offer may be conditional on achieving CAS 18 in Chemistry normally undertaken at the University's Summer School.

Dental graduates: Should hold at least Part A of the MFDS qualification and have at least two years post-qualification experience.

Exemptions
:  Honours graduate applicants should note that no exemptions from any part of the programme or examinations are granted.

Graduate applicants will only be considered for Year 1 entry to our five-year degree programme.

Graduates with a Non-Honours ('Ordinary') Degree

Graduates who have achieved a non-Honours degree will be deemed to be 'Mature' applicants and may thus be considered for medicine if they fulfil the requirements stated on the Mature Applicants page.

Exceptions: Non-honours graduates offering a nursing degree can 'upgrade' their qualifications by:

  • Extending their degree to Honours 2:1 level through the Open University or another university, or by obtaining an MSc
  • Undertaking our requirements for Scottish Highers or A-Levels, which could be taken in two sittings
  • Undertaking a recognised Access to Medicine course (see Mature Applicants).

Please note that our Chemistry requirements also apply (see above).

Typical Offer for Honours Graduates

  • If our requirements are not yet achieved, a typical offer will be Conditional upon achieving a minimum of Honours 2:1 at first sitting plus (if appropriate) grade B in Higher or A in A-Level Chemistry or equivalent
