Overseas Applicants
Please see the links on the left-hand side in the Overseas menu that are specific to overseas students. Our requirements of candidates, whether classed as "Home", "European Union" or "Overseas", are identical. You should thus refer to the rest of the site for further information regarding Academic and Non-Academic Entrance requirements and Fitness to Practice issues.
Aberdeen welcomes applications from Overseas candidates. Should you come to study at Aberdeen, we are confident that you will receive a first class medical education and hope that you will develop long-lasting friendships with your colleagues here. We trust that your time spent in Aberdeen, sampling the "Scottish Experience", will be memorable - and enjoyable!
There are only a small number of places (currently 13) for candidates from overseas countries. In addition, there are only a limited number of places for graduates, who are expected to hold at least an upper second class Honours degree, or equivalent. The Admissions Committee feels an obligation to provide as many places as it can for school-leavers who have not benefited from higher education.
Candidates applying from the European Union are classed as "Home" students, and will be competing for one of the remaining 162 places available.
We are also one of the recognised "Partner Universities" that can offer 10 places to students applying from the International Medical University of Malaysia. Such candidates, having successfully undertaken over 2 years of their studies at the IMU, complete the remaining 2 years and 1 term at Aberdeen (see International Medical University)
All International students should be aware of important changes that have been made to visa applications. Any international student planning to study full-time in the UK with a start date after March 2009 will need to apply for their visa under Tier 4.
The UK Government is in the process of replacing its current system of immigration with the Points Based System (PBS). The new system has 5 Tiers under which individuals can apply for a visa. From April 2009 international (non European Economic Area – EEA) students will need to apply for a student visa under Tier 4.
