About
Leadership Structure
Each of the components in the group's scientific structure benefits from a leader-mentor together with a post-doctoral co-lead. Most group members conduct research that contributes to several components of this structure.
Capacity Building
Building the leadership experience and scientific expertise of early career members is a priority for the group. This is achieved through mentoring and appraisal systems, inclusion of early career researchers on grant applications and regular training workshops.
Training Programme
Training workshops are conducted each month by the members and for the members. Each 5-hour workshop includes individual presentations, group feedback and critique, discussion of developing ideas and in-depth presentations of key scientific or professional issues. The group provides teaching of health psychology at Masters level in the context of the Health Psychology components of the MSc in Public Health and Health Services Research. Continuing Professional Development workshops are also held from time to time. Several members of the group are Chartered Health Psychologists (through the British Psychological Society) and Health Psychologists registered with the UK Health Professions Council.
Administrative support
The group is supported through the administrative infrastructure of the Health Services Research Unit and benefits from the research culture and quality assurance procedures of the Unit. Proximity to high-calibre health services researchers and clinical researchers in the Unit, the Institute of Applied Health Sciences and the School of Psychology provides opportunity for collaborative research.
