Medical Education Research Strategy

Our medical programme aims to produce excellent doctors who will be able to assimilate and apply new knowledge throughout their careers and who will themselves contribute to the advancement of medicine. Our programme is demanding, and needs to be supported by a vigorous programme of evaluation, research and development.

Within our overall aim of producing excellent doctors, the medical education research strategy of the School of Medicine is:

  • To support excellence in medical education research.
  • To ensure that our research informs educational practice.
  • To foster interest, excellence and scholarship across the continuum of medical education.

Our objectives are:

  • To be recognised locally, nationally and internationally as delivering innovative and excellent medical education research.
  • To strengthen the education research culture and to focus on excellence.
  • To nurture the development of staff scholarship in medical education research.
  • To collaborate with the wider community to further the quality of medical education activities locally, nationally and internationally.
  • To ensure that, wherever possible, the outcomes of our research are embedded in the student experience.
  • To disseminate our research in the highest quality medical education journals and at national and international fora.
  • To secure diverse, and independent funding streams to underpin our ambition.
