Medical Education Research
The Division of Medical and Dental Education, launched in August 2008, was born out of the Medical Education Unit originally established in 1995. This expansion recognised a successful period of innovation in medical education at Aberdeen. The Division is lead by Professor Hamish McKenzie who has overall responsibility for the delivery of the MBChB programme. Dr Rona Patey (Rona.Patey@arh.grampian.scot.nhs.uk) is Deputy Head of the Division of Medical Education Research and Director of the Clinical Skills Centre.
These developments highlighted the need to vigorously evaluate innovations in teaching and learning at Aberdeen. This was formalised by the appointment of a Lead for Medical Education Research in 2006: Dr Jennifer Cleland. Dr Cleland provides strategic direction and support for staff who wish to engage in medical education research.
In support of the mission of the University of Aberdeen, research in Medical Education works towards the vision of Aberdeen "to engage all our students in a distinctive, high-quality research-driven learning experience" by supporting explicit linkages between research and teaching.
Many staff active in medical education are also involved in medical education research. The names and contact details for theme leads are provided within each Research Theme/Theme under Development.
