The listen again podcast? Well if it’s good enough for Terry Wogan ….
Realising that it isn’t always possible to make it to your Library induction - perhaps you started after the induction, or your course hadn’t organised one - we’ve decided to make it as easy as possible to catch up on a library tour by providing a series of "podcasts". We call our podcasts AudioPODS - they are audio files with additional enhanced features such as photographs, floor plans and links to web pages for those of you with new generation players.
Don't worry if you have an older mp3 player - you can still listen to our AudioPODS in mp3 format! In fact our AudioPODs can also be played on computers and new generation mobile 'phones.
We've got loads to choose from ....
Here are answers to some of the questions you might have about the podcasts:
What’s a podcast?
Well, officially it is a bit like a radio show, something that is constantly added to with new episodes coming out regularly. You can subscribe to our podcasts through iTunes so that you automatically upload the latest episode.
So the library is running a radio show?
Well given that strictly speaking a podcast is similar to a radio show, no we aren’t running a radio show! We have actually decided to call our podcasts AudioPODs – audio (and visual, for those with the snazzy technology) tours of the Library. We will update them with new information regularly, but we won’t have a weekly or monthly update like a podcast.
Thing is my parents weren’t that cool and bought me an ordinary mp3 player and not an iPod for Christmas. Can I still listen to the AudioPOD?
There a lots of great mp3 players out there, not just the Apple iPod and what you have will allow you to listen to podcasts and download our AudioPODs.
Worse than that, I don’t have an MP3 player at all – what can I do?
We’ve thought of that! Got a PC or Mac? You can listen via your computer. All you have to do is download iTunes (it is free) and listen there. More information on obtaining media players capable of playing Library AudioPODS is available online on our Media Players web page.
You mentioned ‘snazzy technology’ and a visual tour – what do you mean?
For those who have players that are capable of using files with m4a extensions we provided some nice pictures of the Library for you to look at whilst you listen to the tour. The idea is to point you to certain parts of the Library by using ‘Stop Signs’.
How do I see the ‘stop signs’ as I don’t have a snazzy player?
We have highlighted all the stops on the Library Floor Plans available from Enquiry Points and these are then signposted on the Floor by a blue coloured Stop Sign.
So, it is just a tour of the Library?
No, there is much more. There are AudioPOD tours of all the floors in Queen Mother Library, both floors of Taylor Library and a welcome to the Medical Library; we also offer recordings about the Teaching Resource Collection and Using the Self Issue Machines; and regular episodes of our podcast library magazine - LibCast.
OK, so I see how useful this could be, but how do I download the AudioPOD?
Details of all the AudioPODs available on our AudioPODs web page.
If you need help with downloading a file to your player or computer please look up the Media Players Web page for more information.
