At 11 a.m. on Monday 12th September we open the ground floor, and floors 1-7 of the new University Library to business!
Staff and students are invited to join University Principal Professor Ian Diamond at 11am today outside the doors of the new library for an informal opening, followed by refreshments and an opportunity to visit the new building.
The University gained access to the building in early August. Since then there has been a huge amount of activity by library and IT staff, and contractors, to install the shelving, furniture and IT and move the books from the Queen Mother Library into the new building, so that students, staff, and the local community, can begin using the new library in earnest from the start of the autumn term on 26th September.
The ground floor is open to the public and includes the University’s newest café outlet: the Hardback Café. Floors 1-7 contain the modern collections that have been moved from QML as well as around 1200 study spaces.
A formal opening ceremony will be held in 2012.
