Speaker: Professor Timothy Ingold
Hosted by: Special Collections Centre
Venue: Special Collections Centre Seminar Room, The Sir Duncan Rice Library, University of Aberdeen, Bedford Road, Aberdeen, AB24 3AA
This event accompanies an exhibition that reveals the inspiration behind a sculpture marking the entrance to the Sir Duncan Rice Library. The work, entitled Waterlines, was created through the collaborative artistic partnership of Will Maclean and Marian Leven.
The sculpture highlights Aberdeen’s maritime heritage, the marks excised in the monument show the draughtsman’s lines for the Thermopylae, one of the fastest of the clipper ships. The work also makes visual comment on the rich collections of sculptured standing stones that mark the Aberdeenshire landscape.
