Reference Management (RefWorks)

What is RefWorks?

RefWorks is web-based reference management software which makes storing references and generating bibliographies easy.

What does it do?

• Stores useful references in a personal database
• Imports references from the University of Aberdeen Library Catalogue
• Imports references directly from external databases, e.g. Scopus, CSA and Web of Science
• Formats bibliographies and citation styles automatically for essays, papers, reading lists and project/thesis work

We give advice and training on using this important software.

Please note that ReWorks does not support the OSCOLA referencing style used by the School of Law.

Write-N-Cite

Write-N-Cite is a utility that allows you to add and format references from your RefWorks database into your work while you write. It works with your word-processor to create citations in your preferred citation style. There are multiple versions of Write-N-Cite available depending on your preferred operating system. It is installed on University computers in classrooms and clusters, but you need to download this utility on to your own machine. This can be done from the Tools menu in your RefWorks account.

NOTE: Write-N-Cite v.4 has just been released (June 2012). There have been a number of significant reported difficulties so we do not recommend use of this version until these have been fully resolved. We are not currently in a position to provide support for W-N-C v.4.
