Study Spaces

There are a variety of reading and study spaces available in The Sir Duncan Rice Library that cater for all needs and preferences.

Soft-Seating Areas

Comfortable soft seating is available on Floors 1 to 5. These areas are ideal for individual reading, personal laptop use, reading newspapers on Floor 1 and for short and quiet conversation. 

Round Study TablesRound study tables in UL

The round study table areas near the lift/lobby area on Floors 3 to 6 are intended for quiet conversation or collaborative work in pairs or small groups. The Co-Labs and bookable Group Study Rooms are available for larger group work activity. 


Quiet StudyIndividual study spaces UL

The formal study desks by the windows around each side of the building and on the open floor areas on Floors 1 to 7 are intended for quiet, individual study. 

 

 

Silent Study RoomsSilent study room in UL

The Silent Study Rooms on Floors 1 and 3 to 6 are totally silent working areas. 

Whichever area you are working in, please respect the needs of people who have chosen to work in that particular area.



Project Rooms

The bookable Project Rooms on lower and upper levels of C Block are available for collaborative work.

Quiet Study

The open floor areas on lower and upper levels in C Block and part of upper D Block are intended for quiet, individual study. 

Silent Study Areas

The lower level and part of the upper level in D Block are totally silent working areas. 



Floor 3 in Medical LibraryQuiet Study

The open floor areas on Floor 2 and the Ground Floor are intended for quiet, individual study.

Silent Study Area

The whole of Floor 3 (illustrated right) is a totally silent working area. There is a PC cluster and a computer classroom equipped with a networked printer on this floor.

Project Rooms

The bookable Project Rooms on Floor 1 and the Ground Floor are available for collaborative work and can be booked for up to 2 hours per day.  

Research Rooms

There are lockable Research Rooms on Floor 3. These are available for a 3-month period to research postgraduate students and staff, for research or writing up.

Soft-Seating AreaSoft seating area in Medical Library

Comfortable soft seating is available on Floor 1 to the right of the Issue Desk. This area (illustrated right) is ideal for individual reading, personal laptop use, and for conversation and group discussion. 

Food and drink may be consumed in the soft seating area.

Viewing Room

On Floor 3 is available for studying all forms of visual aids – video, microfilm/fiche, tape/slide, slides and x-rays. Bookings for the Viewing Room can be made:

Individual Study

The Reid Library at the Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health has 18 reader places for individual quiet study.

Help is available at the Issue Desk in the library. We have wi-fi access and a dedicated OPAC PC available for searching the Library Catalogue.

Non Rowett staff who wish to visit should contact the library in advance.
