Books

The majority of geography books are located on Floor 3 of the Sir Duncan Rice Library. General geography textbooks may be found at the shelfmark 910. There will also be relevant books in other Sciences and Social Sciences areas on Floors 5 and 6. More specific shelfmarks are as follows:

Journals

Print only Geography journals are shelved on Floor 2 of the Sir Duncan Rice Library at Per 910. There are also relevant journal titles in Per 711 (Regional Science), Per 330 (Economics), Per 301 (General Social Science) and at Per 550 (Geology and Earth Sciences) and Per 570 (Biology). Issues that are shelved in closed access stores can be requested via the library catalogue or Primo.

We subscribe to a large number of full-text e-journals in this subject area. An alphabetical list is available through Primo.

Other types of resources

Maps
Our main map collection is kept in map cabinets on Floor 1 of the Sir Duncan Rice Library.

Digimap
Very detailed Ordnance Survey maps in digital form available for downloading or printing. You need to register for the service. You can do this online by logging in from the Digimap login page, then choosing the Collection for which you wish to register.

Census data
UK census data is held in the Taylor Library. The general UK Census reports are in print form, dating back to 1851. We hold both the printed volumes and the cd-rom version of the detailed UK Small Area Statistics (1981 and 1991 data): using the cd-rom, maps and charts can be created and printed.

If you require very detailed census data for creating your own tables, contact the Taylor Library about access to the MIMAS datasets. The information pages will give you an idea of what is available.

Other statistical information
The Library subscribes to a number of statistical publications, many issued by the UK Office for National Statistics. The social statistics are shelved on Floor 6 of the Sir Duncan Rice Library. Some of the most frequently used titles are:

• Scottish Abstract of Statistics Quarterly Economic Commentary
• Employment Gazette

In the Taylor Library, you can find a number of statistical series published by the European Union, such as European Economy and Europe's Environment.

Official Publications, Taylor Library
Useful information on government policy developments can be found in official publications. The Taylor Library has good holdings of UK Parliamentary Publications from Westminster, the Scottish Parliament and the European Union. There are specialist cd-rom indexes for these collections in the Taylor Library, and much information can be found in full text on the Parliament and Departmental Web pages:
