BUBL
This is the major gateway for the UK academic community. In addition to giving access to abstracts and full text of selected journals, it has an impressive listing of subject based sites which are at academic level. *No longer updated from April 2011.

INFOMINE
A major American academic venture since 1993 with over 20,000 links to top level sites.

WWW Virtual Library
This was one of the first international subject arranged gateways and is now quite massive. While it will concentrate on US sites, it does list many UK and European ones too.

TechXtra
The British gateway to engineering resources on the Internet, especially UK-based ones.
