Waterlines: Will Maclean & Marian Leven

Opens 19 January to 14 April 2013

What inspires and informs the creative process? The forthcoming exhibition reveals the inspiration behind a specially commissioned sculpture that marks the entrance to the academic plaza at The Sir Duncan Rice Library.

The work, entitled Waterlines, was created through the collaborative artistic partnership of Will Maclean and Marian Leven. The sculpture highlights Aberdeen’s maritime heritage and makes comment on the rich collections of standing stones that mark the surrounding landscape.

Waterlines, which is formed from Kilkenny Blue Limestone, is the first sculptural collaboration between two of Scotland’s most highly regarded and well established artists. Maclean is one of Scotland’s leading artists with an international reputation rooted in the Highlands of Scotland. Leven’s artistic practice owes much to her formative training in constructed textiles, though she shares with Maclean an innate and vital connection to the sea and the effect of the elements on the landscape as seen through her painting.

Waterlines: Will Maclean & Marian Leven runs at the Gallery, The Sir Duncan Rice Library from 19 January to 14 April 2013.
