NHS Knowledge Network

Use your ATHENS password to log in here to the NHS Knowledge Network.

The NHS Knowledge Network is an online electronic library with over 5000 online journals, 80 major databases, over 5000 electronic books and much more. It is available to all NHS Scotland staff and to a range of NHS partners including most medical students at the University of Aberdeen.

It is a valuable resource as it provides access to many major journals which the University of Aberdeen does not subscribe to. Some of these journals are freely available, but to get the full benefit of the service you will need to apply for an Athens username and password.

Passwords are available to the following groups who should apply by following the Why Register link at the top right of the Knowledge Network home page.

  • Staff - anyone who works directly for or is a contractor with NHSScotland, including those providing training to NHS staff.
  • Students - undergraduate or postgraduate students working or training with the NHS.
  • Partners - all individuals and organisation that provide services and support to the work of NHS Scotland, including local authority staff, Scottish Executive, voluntary health sector, health care staff working in the armed forces, prison service, nursing homes, hospices, schools, etc, emergency services staff, members of the Scottish Royal Colleges, patient/public representatives on NHS groups.

Please note that University of Aberdeen computer usernames and passwords will not work. Please refer any questions to our NHS colleagues at Cornhill or Dr Gray's, Elgin, rather than to the Medical Library.
