'Syria and the Prohibition of Intervention: Lessons Learned'

Professor Christine Gray from the University of Cambridge will give a guest lecture on: 'Syria and the Prohibition of Intervention: Lessons Learned'.

This lecture will examine the challenges to the international law rules on intervention posed by the conflict in Syria. Many states have intervened in the conflict, but those supporting the rebels have offered little by way of legal justification. How far does the decision of the International Court of Justice in the Nicaragua case offer guidance? Are the legal rules on intervention clear? Are they adequate? Are those acting in support of the government obliged to justify their intervention?
