Graduate Entry Bachelor of Laws

Accelerated LLB

King's CollegeThe Law School has places available for well qualified graduates seeking admission to the two year LLB programme (see below for a typical curriculum). Applicants must normally possess either a meritorious Ordinary Degree or an Upper Second Class Honours degree.

As the Student Awards Agency for Scotland does not normally pay tuition fees to students taking second degrees, graduates will be expected to finance themselves. The fees in session 2010-2011 will be in the region of £9,500.

Graduates seeking admission must apply through UCAS.

Further advice on graduate entry and tuition fees may be obtained from the Undergraduate Admissions Selector for Law:

Total No of Credits: 295 (see note below)

The following codes are used in the above table:

  • c = Compulsory for LLB degree
  • p = Not compulsory for the degree, but professionally required by the Law Society in order to practise as a solicitor

Please also note the following:

  • The above model generates 295 credits, which is 65 credits short of the 360 required for the LLB. However, graduates will normally be granted 120 credits (equal to one year of study) to safely exceed the necessary 360.
  • Five credits approximates to one hour of assumed class contact per week. Accordingly in the first semester of first year, a graduate has approximately 14 hours of lectures per week (70 ÷ 5).
  • Graduates wishing to keep options open for qualifying as advocates in Scotland should take Private International Law, as it is compulsory for admission to the Faculty of Advocates. This course, which carries 15 credits, can be taken conveniently in the second year (second semester).
  • Graduates on the two-year LLB must achieve 60 credits at level 3, typically by passing the level 3 courses in evidence, revenue law and conveyancing.
