Ageing and CNS Disorders

Neurodegenerative diseases and psychiatric disorders are a leading cause of disability world-wide and a major scientific challenge in basic (pre-clinical) and clinical research. An advanced understanding of endogenous and life style factors affecting brain function and healthy ageing will impact on social, economical and medical recommendations and the development of treatment strategies.

The Ageing and CNS-disorder Expert group (ACE) offers a wide range of experimental models, endpoints and biomarkers as essential tools for research, and for the ultimate design and testing of new and effective therapies for CNS disorders. Key staff at Aberdeen University apply translational research that enables preclinical studies, drug testing and the development of new technologies and experimental procedures.
