Synthetic Chemistry
Alongside our established facilities in the Department of Chemistry, The University of Aberdeen has recently set up in the IMS two 80 m2 state-of-the-art laboratories for synthetic organic chemistry, which allows for close and immediate collaboration with the biomedical sciences.
The IMS chemistry group, led by Professor Matteo Zanda, focuses on several different topics:
(1) Design and synthesis of organic molecules for medicinal chemistry and drug discovery programmes
(2) The development of novel synthetic methodologies
(3) Design and synthesis of novel radiotracers for PET imaging (in collaboration with the John Maillard PET Centre)
(4) The synthesis of polypeptides (in collaboration with the polypeptide synthesis unit of the CNR-ICRM of Milan, Italy)
