Medicinal Chemistry
Whilst finding a potent drug or a novel target is a good start, it is only the first part of a drug development process. Our medicinal chemistry team focus on proving that our targets and compounds are of real value to the pharmaceutical industry.
In order to maximise the value of a drug dicovery programme, prior to commercialisation, it is usually necessary to obtain a specific data package. If a target is shown to be "druggable" or a compound to be "drug-like" then it becomes of much greater interest to the pharmaceutical industry, rather than just an academic curiosity. We have good experience of the data package which must be assembled and thus are able to take a compound from an interesting "hit" to a valuable "candidate".
These studies can also be carried out with the aim of proving the druggability of a novel target; the best proof of druggability is to demonstrate the a drug-like molecule can reach and interact with the target. Thus, our medicinal chemistry team aim to add value to each project in a rapid and cost-effective manner.
