Cell and Molecular Systems Biology
Aims
Understanding the complexity of living organisms requires new tools and approaches to explain how their cells and tissues work together and are regulated.
To meet this challenge, biologists in industry and academia are increasingly working in interdisciplinary teams with physicists, computing scientists and mathematicians, in the new field of systems biology. Together, they are using model building to pose new hypotheses about how cells integrate and control many different gene products to produce well-organised tissues.
The MSc in Cell & Molecular Systems Biology will teach you how our current understanding of cell and molecular biology is being enhanced through the development of predictive computer models of living systems. This newly launched MSc programme is funded by the Biotechnological and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), the major science funding body in the UK, and we can offer full stipends and tuition fees to students who meet the eligibility criteria (see ‘Funding’ section below, and ‘Further Information’ www link, above).
The MSc in Cell & Molecular Systems Biology is aimed at students with either a biology or physical sciences background. It will produce graduates who can use biological modelling as part of their everyday scientific approach to analysing and understanding biological systems. Successful graduates will be able to contribute to interdisciplinary research teams, which are the future of scientific research.
