Aims

Advances in biology over the last 20 years have generated new insights into the causes of disease. This new level of understanding has, in turn, presented unprecedented opportunities for the development of new therapies, diagnostic tools and research/clinical instrumentation. Biotechnology, particularly medical biotechnology, is one of the fastest growing opportunities for employment. At the same time there is a growing need for people with good communication skills to educate the public about the importance and significance of the biological research that underpins much of modern medicine. Individuals with the imagination to exploit biotechnological thinking, who are wishing to learn more about systems for information retrieval, and have the flair required to take scientific ideas through to new products or technologies will greatly benefit from and enjoy this programme.
