Rules for Social Play

The following rules should be adopted by all players at Club Social Play sessions. The rules were created in order to enable a flow of players throughout the courts so that no person has to wait too long to get a game of tennis.

·         Matches are played best of 7 games. The first to 4 games is the winner. This means the only potential scores during social play are 4-0, 4-1, 4-2 & 4-3.

·         All games are Sudden Death. During Club social sessions when a game reaches deuce the next point is “sudden death”. The team or individual that wins the point at deuce also wins the game.

·         Once you have reached a result in your Social Play Match you should come off the court and gather at the Single Tennis Court in order to mix up the players that are playing that day and to allow a flow of players throughout the courts.

·         When more than one Social Match is in progression the players on completion of their match should shout to inform all the other Social Matches in progression that a result has been achieved my calling out “Match Complete.” When calling to the other courts please aim to do so between points rather than during a rally.

·         The other matches should finish the current game that they are playing, irrespective of the overall match score, and then gather at the Single Court. This ensures that the changeover of players happens at about the same time and the amount of waiting is limited for all.

·         All players are expected to mix together during Social tennis sessions. If there are approximately even numbers of male and female players then most Social matches will be mixed doubles.

·         All players are expected to be courteous and polite at all times to their partners and opponents during Social Tennis. If incidents arise then please contact the Club Secretary or President or, whom failing, any other Club Committee member.

·         Club members of long standing, preferably Committee members or those that know most players, should take charge at Social Tennis sessions in order to quickly mix the players at the match changeover. They should ensure that games are mixed and that “cliques” are not allowed to be created.

·         Do not coach other players or your partner during Social Play unless they ask for advice. While some players may welcome the advice others may take offence. Only volunteer the advice once requested not as a matter of course
