ITALIC is about motivation to learn and student 'gains' in classrooms where a modern language is the medium for learning new content knowledge - an approach known as CLIL - Content and Language Integrated Learning. Funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, ITALIC involved 11 secondary schools, 24 teachers and their colleagues and over 650 learners acrossEngland and Scotland. ITALIC is also about professional learning. The study investigated how teachers and learners across very different schools share an understanding of 'successful' learning. The ITALIC team wishes to share the work of such an inspiring group of professionals and encourage more teachers and learners to join the ITALIC community.
