International Conference: European Rural Policy at the Crossroads

Timed to follow the start of the next round of GATT/WTO international
trade talks and the initiation of EU enlargement negotiations, this conference
brought together speakers from across the world to review and discuss
the impact of these and other developments on European Rural Policy.
Issues discussed included:
- What should be the future rural policy framework in East and West
Europe following EU enlargement?
- How will WTO budget resources affect further agricultural and rural
policy reform?
- How will the increasing diversity of rural Europe influence rural
policy-making?
The meeting was open to all academics, policy makers and rural development
and environmental practitioners nationally and internationally, with key
speakers drawn from Western & Eastern Europe, USA, Canada, the European
Commission, the OECD and the academic community world-wide.
