Advice and Support
We understand that students may need support and guidance for a variety of different academic and non-academic issues during their time at University. These webpages are designed to help you to access our wide range of student support and information services, and the friendly and supportive staff who are here to help.
Key support services, and links to their contact details are summarised below in alphabetical order, and more specific guidance is contained in the sub-menu links to the left of this page. You might also wish to bookmark the Student Help Guide.
- Accommodation Office - Based on the second floor of the Hub the Accommodation Office can help and provide information on campus accommodation and campus facilities. Campus Services is committed to helping the environment and increasing awareness within the University.
- Careers Service– The Careers Service, based on the second floor of the Hub, can help you to make the most of your time at University through opportunities to gain experience and skills through the co-curriculum and during vacations. It can also help you with career-related issues ranging from identifying career options and career planning to making applications, designing your CV and practising your interview technique.
- Chaplaincy- The University Chaplaincy (25 High Street) is a place of welcome for all and serves as a spiritual and social centre for students and staff. The University Chaplaincy team is there to support students and staff, whether that’s by providing some coffee or by having a one on one chat. They’re there for everyone, not just Christians, regardless of whether they have a faith or not, all genders, races, religions.
- Counselling Service: The Counselling Service is open to all members of the University students both students and staff. Counselling is a process which offers you the opportunity to explore any issues which are causing you concern or distress. These matters can be emotional or social or they might be connected to your work or studies.
- Language Centre- Contact the Language Centre for advice and guidance with English Language skills or if you are looking to learn an entirely new language.
- Library– The Library offers a wide range of books, e-journals and resources for all University students, whilst offering a quiet place to study.
- Registry Staff- Registry Officers can be a great 'first point of call' and source of support to students who have concerns about their programme of study.
- Service Desk– The DIT Service Desk is your first point of contact for IT support at the University of Aberdeen.
- Student Advice and Support Office- Based in the Hub, the Student Advice and Support team offers impartial and confidential advice and support on a range of issues, including finance, disability information and more.
- Students' Association (AUSA)– Based in the Butchart Centre, AUSA is the organisation that represents and serves your interest, and works to make your time in Aberdeen as happy and enjoyable as possible.
- Student Learning Services (SLS) - The SLS offers workshops, study advice sessions for students who wish to improve their learning strategies such as developing their writing and exam techniques. They also have dyslexia support sessions. SLS offers a series of free Academic Skills Workshops during term-time.
