Rights and responsibilities

As a student of the University of Aberdeen, you have both rights and responsibilities. A number of formal statements set out what you can expect from the University and what expectations are placed on you. This page lists the key documents you will need and directs you to the policy documents.

  • Academic Quality Handbook: Provides details of all of the University's policies and procedures for teaching and learning.

  • Appeals and complaints: Provides information on the University's Appeals and Complaints Procedures, through which students may formalise their concerns about aspects of their academic experience or complain when they feel that standards of non-academic service have fallen short of that which they expected.

  • Code of Conduct for the use of computer classrooms: Provides details of the code students are expected to adhere to in computer classrooms.

  • Partnership Agreement: The University has developed its Partnership Agreement so that students may have the best possible experience and make the most of the opportunities available to them while they are at University. The Agreement sets out the University's expectations for staff and students to work in partnership to enhance the University community and to create an atmosphere of mutual courtesy and respect.
  • Single Equality and Diversity Scheme: The University has developed Equality Schemes and Action Plans in the areas of race, disability and gender, which set out our plans and significant progress in promoting equality.
  • Student Discipline: Disciplinary offences are defined in academic and non-academic terms. Academic offences include, for instance, cheating in an assessment or at an examination, while non-academic offences include, for instance, damaging University property.

  • Student Attendance, Performace, and Assessment (SAPA): this document contains information relating to your student registration and studies at the University. Please ensure that you consult the document upon starting your studies at the University.

  • Tier 4 students: Please consult the guidance provided in the Visa and Immigration section to ensure you are aware of and comply with UK Border Agency immigration regulations and the associated University procedures.
