Research Interests

My main research interests are in studying the relationship between tree breeding and stem quality and wood properties of forest trees, mechanisms associated with competition and stability of forest trees and stands, and regeneration dynamics within irregular forest stands.

My recent research involves determining the genetic heritability of wood properties critical to timber strength of Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) and the modelling of wood properties of Scots pine during the transformation to irregular forest structures.

Currently, I am involved with colleagues from Macaulay Institute, Aberdeen in developing methods to measure forest stand parameters using satellite remote sensing techniques.
