HEADLINES "Getting Linked: for better health"

What are we?

'HEADLINES', Health and Data Linkage in North East Scotland, is a new research network that brings together researchers from the University of Aberdeen and NHS Grampian.   Our purpose is to optimise the secondary use of health data in research and link datasets within and out with the NHS to improve healthcare.  We will maintain Aberdeen as a Centre for Excellence for health research using linked data and will achieve our goals by bringing together resources and experience in data linkage and by supporting collaborative working, education and training and best practice in governance in this field.

Who are we?

Setting the scene

In 2011 the Principal, Professor Diamond, identified "Pathways to Health" as a major strategic research theme for the University of Aberdeen.   The Institute of Applied Health Sciences contributes three areas of international strength research to the theme:

  • Determinants and Diagnosis of Conditions
  • Evaluation of Health Care Interventions
  • Delivery and Organisation of Care

Common to these is the use of national and local data sources and their linkage to provide a powerful means of understanding the factors which influence health and disease over the course of life.
